THE BLOODY GREAT BIG TREE
I wondered why I took this picture when I looked though the collection that I was digitizing for the site. Why did I take a picture of the big tree from the quad? I can think of a couple though. In the autumn it produced nuts that we all used to eat when we could find them. It was a Beech tree, and the nuts, whilst small, were very tasty and a fond change from DHS cuisine. Also this tree represents the school. When I took the picture it seemed very alone and forlorn, a sign of something great that had been forgotten and had become tangled and overrun. I used to climb this tree, and I used to sit with my school friends underneath it, getting shade in the summer. When I was only 7, I used to run around it, playing chasing games with friends. It was really a part of my young life, and I suspect it will strike a chord with some others of you out there.
